Over the Easter weekend, Oscar Zia was the music guest on Bingolotto. And as well as performing his Melodifestivalen hit ‘Yes We Can’, he also did THE absolute highlight from his debut album ‘I Don’t Know How To Dance’, and what we hope will be the next single from it. It’s ‘Ballare Con Me’ and it’s brill.
As the title suggests, it’s one of those latino pop tinged numbers that the Scandis seem to churn out so incredibly well. The rest of the world had a brief flirtation with the genre niche at the turn of the Millennium (which has sort of come back into fashion again now) but Scandinavian pop music has never quite let the trend go. And while the infamous ‘Bombo’ was the staple of the genre in 2013, this year could well see the summer of Oscar Zia’s ‘Ballare Con Me’.
It’s a massive track that packs an almighty punch in several areas. From the holiday resort accordion riff, to the Euro house beat, and the ridiculously catchy (obviously) chorus to the OTT “oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh” post chorus. If this was being lined up for release by a big American artist, they would get Pitbull to feature on it. So thank Christ it’s not being released by a big American artist.
The ‘I Don’t Know How To Dance’ album is out now in Sweden. If you live outside of Sweden, you can get the album on CD from our store.
